‘Musical Valentines’
A short concert of romantic orchestral music
In advance of Valentine's Day, the Leighton–Linslade Gala Orchestra delighted their audience with 75 minutes of romantic music played by a full 40-piece orchestra.
Music included Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty waltz, music from the film La La Land, a medley of songs by Bert Bacharach and many more pieces with a romantic feel.
The Orchestra was pleased to be joined by guest singers Dave Anstice-Pim and Laura Jamie Anstice who sang two love songs from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and two romantic songs from Broadway musicals. They were accompanied by pianist Hannah Morton. They also sang three well-known songs with the Orchestra. This time the Orchestra was raising money for the Leighton-based KidsOut charity which provides positive experiences for some of the UK’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children.
The concert was followed by tea and cakes in the Hall, kindly provided by members of St Barnabas Church (with proceeds going to the Church).
The concert was a great success, the Orchestra was on fine form and there were many complimentary comments from audience members.

Following the huge sell-out success of last September's film music concert, the Leighton-Linslade Gala Orchestra is back with another exciting hour-long Sunday afternoon concert. This time the music will have a bright and joyful midsummer feel with music to suit all ages. Included in the programme will be Roger Quilter's "Children's Overture", Gershwin's ever-popular song 'Summertime', selections of songs by Henry Mancini and ABBA and much more.
The concert will again be fund-raising for a local charity. This time the Orchestra has chosen the Magpas Air Ambulance service, based in Cambridge but which covers the Leighton Buzzard area.
Tea and cakes will be available in the Church Hall after the concert, kindly provided by members of St Barnabas, with profits going to the Church.
All welcome to come along and enjoy a fun afternoon of light orchestral music.
